Will steps out, eyes bloodshot, a giant plushie hugged to his chest — big enough to block his sightline. He moves past the nose of a parked delivery van toward the street.
A cyclist, GRAHAM, barrels along the painted bike lane and slams into him. The plushie tumbles. Will drops with the rider, already reaching to steady him.
Hey! Hey, you all right?
Will drops, bracing GRAHAM’S head without moving the neck. Blood slicks from a cut, bright and fast. His eyes swim, his mouth moves; no sound.
Hey! Stay with me, alright? What's your name?

Graham coughs, breath hitching. A thin line of red gathers at his lip; the cut at his hairline seeps into his hair. Will braces him without moving the neck, folds a sleeve against the wound, his face close and steady.
