INT. WILL AND HANNAH'S BEDROOM - NIGHT #16#

Hannah and Will step inside. The light from the hallway spills across the dark room. Will crosses to the bedside table and clicks on a single lamp: warm light pools across the floor.

We pull back — a crib sits in the corner. A baby starts to coo.

WILL

(quietly)

I think you woke him up.

Hannah doesn’t move. The sound catches her — quiet, alive, impossible. Will bends, lifts the baby from the crib, and rests him on his shoulder.

WILL

You want to hold him?

Hannah opens her mouth, trying to speak. It takes effort to get the words out.

HANNAH

What's his name?

WILL

Noah. After your granddad.

HANNAH

Stop. Please.

WILL

Death may be inevitable, Hannah, but life isn't. He exists because of what happened. What will happen.

The baby stirs on Will’s shoulder; a small movement, another soft coo.

HANNAH

I want him to be real. I do.

WILL

He is. He is as real as anything in this world. And he's yours.

He holds the baby out to her. Hannah hesitates, then takes him, resting the bundle against her shoulder.

HANNAH

He's warm.

Will doesn’t answer. He just watches her. Hannah holds the baby closer.

HANNAH

What have you seen?

WILL

I've seen him grow up. Go to school. Fall in love. Get his heart broken. Travel the world with us. Travel the world on his own. Become a man, a good man. I've seen him become a father. I've seen so much.

HANNAH

(quietly)

Thank you.

She touches him. THE HUM builds.
