Julia stumbles out of the house, breath ragged, eyes wide. She paces a few steps into the empty street before pressing herself against the garden wall, shaking. The grief wells up and rips out of her—an unfiltered, guttural cry that cuts through the quiet night.
Hannah appears, rushing toward her. She crouches down, arms open, steadying Julia as she collapses to her knees.
Hey, I'm here. I'm here.
The two stay there on the pavement, Julia trembling, Hannah holding her firm.
