Night at a park bench. They sit close, voices low. Leaves stir; an insect scratches the quiet.
Josh is a good guy. Loving. Sweet. But I think this afternoon he was afraid.
Aren't you?
Of course. Time travel is real, and some jerk is using it to ruin your life. And maybe ruin ours. When you told me the two of you used to be together-
I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to-
I realised how insane this must all be to you. It's a nightmare. I can't just go on with my life after that.
(a beat)
What was your Josh like?
Well you said it. Loving. And sweet. But he never looked at me like he did today.
I tried to imagine what it was like if the situation was reversed. Him looking at me like a stranger.
(a beat)
Tell me about this Will.
He's a sociopath. I would say he's cold but the Will I'm living with is different. He's charming, I guess. I'm scared of him.
Something needs to be done.
If I go back in time, I leave this version of Hannah here. I could try and change something but I don't know enough about him to find the right waypoints.
You need to find that book.
If he catches me, if he decides to change things, then even this conversation will have never happened.
Then let's make sure I'm along for the ride.
What are you saying?
I'll be a Traveller.
(a beat)
I love Josh, and he can make his own choices. So can I. Helping you increases our chances of making sure he'll be fine.
But the double consciousness. You will-
I know what it is I'm doing, Hannah. You explained it. I've made my choice. So how does this work?
I don't know. Will tried to save me at the car crash, and then he lost control-
The emotion.
But I don't know what to do.
Well, you already said. It starts with this.
She puts Hannah's hand in hers and looks into her eyes.
Now think. Think of what you're trying to save.
I don't know if it can be.
Look at me. There's always something to save.
As they lock eyes, THE HUM builds.
