INT. JOSH'S & JULIA'S HOUSE - DAY #6#

The same living room from the first episode, now slightly redressed with a more lived-in look for the couple. Photographs and paraphernalia line the shelves and walls. Hannah, Julia and Josh are all standing there. On Josh, then wider:

JOSH

So let me get this straight. Your boyfriend is a time traveller who has tricked you into being with him by manipulating your life, and ours, in the past, a past where you and I were together.

HANNAH

That's right.

JOSH

Oh boy. That's a hell of a story.

HANNAH

(defensively)

Haven't I proven enough just now? How would I know about your lives? How would I...

JULIA

We're not saying we don't believe you.

JOSH

We're not?

JULIA

But we've been talking in circles for over two hours now and I still don't understand it.

JOSH

Neither do I. How can someone lie about being in a relationship with you?

HANNAH

He was lying to me-me. The me that's talking to you now. There's another Hannah, the 2025 one whose body I'm currently in. To her, this is her normal life. In that life, she's together with Will.

JULIA

And does he know he's talking to you, not his Hannah?

HANNAH

Don't say that.

JULIA

Sorry. 'The other' Hannah.

HANNAH

No, he doesn't know. If he did, he would try and change things immediately. God, I can't believe it's been a fucking year.

JULIA

Wait, so who are you with in this timeline? Traveller Will or his 2025 self?

HANNAH

It must be this timeline's Will, since he hasn't sensed me yet. Travellers can do that.

JOSH

I don't get it. Why would he go through all this trouble but then have his other version be with you?

HANNAH

I don't know. But the two Wills talk to each other. The Will of this timeline knows he's a time traveller. He writes things down for himself. Trips, events he's changed.

JULIA

This book you talked about.

HANNAH

Right. But I can't find it anymore. He must've hidden it.

JOSH

There's another thing I don't get. If this was his plan all along, why would he turn you into a time traveller?

HANNAH

I don't think he meant to. I was in a car crash. Emotion and physical contact can transfer the power.

JULIA

And that's what you want to do to us.

HANNAH

To make sure whatever Will changes now won't affect you anymore.

JOSH

But from what you're telling us, all you will do is create copies of us. The other versions will keep on existing in our bodies. So which ones will we be? The copies or the originals?

HANNAH

Both? I don't know. I don't know how any of this works.

JOSH

Look, I don't want to be a ghost.

HANNAH

If Will finds out about me, he's going to change things. And you'll never know about it. He already did.

JOSH

In the timeline where you and I were together.

HANNAH

That's right.

Josh and Julia exchange a meaningful look.

HANNAH

I know this is a lot to take in. And how hard it is to believe. I sound crazy. But I'm not crazy.

JULIA

I don't think you are.

JOSH

I think you are. But I also think you're telling the truth.

HANNAH

I came here because I'm trying to keep you two together. Will changed you once, he'll do it again.

JULIA

But he only changed us so he could get to you. And he already did that.

JOSH

Right. Seems to me like he would just leave us alone *except* if we join you.

Hannah struggles to find the words, but Josh continues.

JOSH

There's another thing. I like my life. I love Julia. I don't know what I was before all this. Maybe you and I were happy. Maybe we were as happy as I am right now. But can you blame me for wanting to hold on to what I have?

HANNAH

It might not be up to you.

JOSH

I understand what you're telling me. And I feel for you. But I don't know you. I don't know the life we've lived.

(looks at Julia)

But I know this. So I have to say no.

A beat. Hannah decides to share something.

HANNAH

I tried to change you. The both of you. Tried to stop you from meeting. I'm not proud of it. I thought I was making things right.

(beat)

It was so easy to do.

JULIA

Then why didn't you?

HANNAH

Because you have a right to be happy. But Will doesn't think that way.

JOSH

I wish we could help. I really do. But it's not worth the sacrifice. We're just trying to live our lives.

HANNAH

(to Josh)

So were we.

The three stand there in silence, everyone at an impasse, the air heavy with apprehension.
